Save Money on Carpet: Five Things You Wish You Knew

Buying carpet can be a huge undertaking, and in our experience, people tend to make costly mistakes when having their carpet installed. Here are five things to know before taking the plunge:

#1: Avoid the $99 Scam

Remember the adage: "There's no such thing as a free lunch." Large Big Box stores bundle their packages to include carpet, pad, and installation. Unfortunately these are accompanied by hefty mark-ups, usually around 25% on carpet installation. If you want to save money, purchase your carpet from a local carpet store and have an independent carpet professional install it. Rhodes Carpet Wichita can help--give Kevin Rhodes a call at 620-200-7537 today!

#2: Rethink the Patterned Carpet

While patterned carpet is great in theory, it can potentially lead to major headaches. Carpet manufacturers usually allow for a 10% margin of error on their patterns, which oftentimes means that there will be a color difference that is noticeable at the seams. Patterned carpet usually works best if you're re-doing a small office or bedroom, where seams can be more easily avoided.

#3: Avoid "Rental Properties" Installers

Unfortunately there are a lot of carpet installers that work quickly and forego the details. These carpet installers are not the people you want working on your family's home or business, as their seams often need to be repaired later on. Avoid the headache by working with an experienced professional who regularly works on residential houses.

#4: Evaluate the Carpet Pad

Just because you're changing out your carpet doesn't mean you necessarily need to replace the carpet pad as well. Newer carpet pad comes with a moisture barrier, so even if you have irreparable pet damage to the carpet, there's a chance that your pad can be reused. If you've recently redone your carpet and are just looking for a change, your carpet pad can likely be saved.

#5: Work with Someone You Trust

There are a lot of quacks in the carpet business. You need a carpet installer who you can trust--one that won't try to upsell you. Kevin Rhodes has over 20 years of experience in the Wichita, KS, carpet installation. Contact him at (620) 200-7537 to receive a free estimate and consultation.
